Port Austin MI Layover
“The secret to success is to be in harmony with existence, to always be calm to let each wave of life wash us a little farther up the shore.”

Day 13 Saturday, Sept 10, 2016. Port Austin layover. One busy morning. Sea Marie's cabin was completely bleached down and cleaned up. Kitty litter cleaned. Kitty dishes were cleaned. The bath rug was washed and dried. Laundry is done including bedding and pillowcase. Shower done. A trip to the farmer's market. I wouldn’t have known about it if Jane didn’t stop by earlier to mention it. Jane is with Al and Lou who have a booth at the market for the Reef Light Assoc. I stopped by the Amish stand and got cookies and a small block of cheese. Even bought a small bag with ties to carry as a backpack. Just the thing to carry small items and have hands free. A nice Hawaiian silk shirt. Mediums sizes are starting to fit me now. And a gift for my daughter Jennifer's birthday coming up.
Post Office was closed however I was informed the local hardware has UPS shipping available. While at the hardware store I picked up some items, 15mm sockets, and binder clips, they always come in handy for closing bags to pining items overhead. And a spray can of Helmsman spar urethane spray for the topside handrails that I didn't get to do while in Sandusky.
I had lunch out on the patio of a bank converted into a restaurant called Bank 1884. A Mediterranean chicken wrap with homemade potato chips. All the while getting some shots of the main street. The weather was perfect, temp 72 light southern breeze so nice to sit on the corner on an iron wrought bench and watch the people walking around.
Scanning the horizon over the western edge of Saginaw Bay showed a line of clouds moving this way. My radar app clearly showed a line of heavy rain inching its way here. Time to get back on the boat.
Sitting on the Sea Marie and anticipating the direction this rain will hit. Every now and then a gust of cool wind hits the plastic curtains and tells me it’s time to fasten them down. Mickey's on his leash wandering about the boat batting flies and staring in the water. Every now and then he lays down on the wooden dock and uses the pilings for his scratching post. Now his claws are keenly sharp.
Looking over the weather and the charts for my next marina crossing Saginaw Bay. East Tawas State Dock has room and reserved a ‘well’. Still hard for me to wrap that ‘well’ around my head.
Later I get invited to dinner with John and Starr aboard the S/V Halcyon.
Fair wind and gentle seas.

Sherry Thaler Awesome town to bunker down in it seems:-) Storms here still threatening till 10 pm but no hail as reported, at least not in West Park. But still, lots of lightning, which made Mally jump just now:-0. Used to love watching the storm come in across the lake when we went to Barry's Bay, Ontario. Take time to enjoy this "mandatory" respite from your journey:-)))
