“The mark of a successful man is one that has spent an entire day on the bank of a river without feeling guilty about it.” – Chinese Proverb

Day 39 Thursday, Oct 6, 2016. Joliet, Illinois. Third and final night here. Rained all morning. The sky cleared later this afternoon. It's Casino Night. Almost five hours playing. Brought back many pleasant memories of Colleen and me playing all night in Las Vegas. Wish she was here tonight. Looks like from here on no casino close enough to play that I know of. But it was a fun night. Finally got my four-of-a-kind on the video poker machine. I will sleep well tonight.
And the river traffic never stops.
These Riverboat Captains getting up in the world.
Up the river they go.
It was early evening when I looked out of the cockpit and saw a small trawler going by the name, Gale Force, pass me by going downriver. It was Grant from Canada who I last saw at St Joseph, Michigan. He was unmistakably by himself at the helm, no doubt with a Canadian cigarette hanging loosely from his lip and his eyes sternly focused ahead. It would be the last time I would see that tenacious Canadian on the loop. Good luck, old man! May the fates reward you!
Should be a short voyage tomorrow if the lock lets me through early. Heading to Big Basin Marina then to meet my daughter and the grandkids for a weekend of fun. This will be a short write-up tonight. Mickey and me gots plenty to do to get ready. Fair winds and gentle seas.
