Are you not permitted to just tie to the river bank or anchor in some out of the way corner? If you stop at a commercial marina every night it is going to be an expensive trip.

Thanks for your comment, Matt. I had no plans to go to the Canadian side of the Detroit River. Wanted to keep the entire loop voyage inside US boundaries. So that left the west bank of the river to navigate. Most of that property is in private hands and with permission one can dock overnight. I didn't know anybody or find any resources helpful. There were no areas marked for anchorage on the either the Detroit of St Clair Rivers that my charts showed. Next week's episode will tell the story of me getting kicked out of a marina on Labor Day Weekend with all the other marinas at full capacity.

I budgeted my voyage much like I would my personal monthly expenses. The 2 largest expense items are fuel and marina costs. Being frugal I managed to keep my expenses around $2000 a month for the first 3 months. Florida and the east coast the costs were higher and did a lot of anchoring there. Using Skipper Bob's Guidebooks, they list the marinas and the cost so I would plan on going to the cheapest ones listed.
