Day 65 Tuesday, Nov 1, 2016. Cuba Landing Marina to Clifton Marina. 43.5 miles. I thought it was a hot day but 88 degrees! A local Nashville TV station reports it broke the previous record of 83 and broke all records for November. Tomorrow will set another record with a forecasted 83 degrees.
Was set to leave Cuba Landing at the break of dawn but Scott showed up and his family. They all came down to see me off. But it was worth the half-hour delay. He told me yesterday his wife was caring for a sick little kitty but this morning their little kitty was getting better.
Each river we traveled together has its own characteristics. The Detroit River with its weed beds and current, the St. Clair River has clear water, powerboats, and swift current, the Chicago River with its towering buildings, bridges, and tour boats; the Des Plaines chemical plants, the Illinois River locks and drawbridges, the Mississippi River steamboats, giant tows, and whirlpools. Ohio River has lots of tows and powerplants, the Cumberland River is quiet and serene, and now the Tennessee River is flat with melancholic limestone banks and majestic homes on the shoreline. One more day on the Tennessee River than it's the Tenn Tom Waterway.
Pouring over my guidebook looking at the mileage between stops. Feels like I'm getting behind. Really would like to get in a 60-mile day but we're still fighting the current. Getting 5.5 mph on average makes for a long day on the water. It'll get better soon. According to Fern Hopkins once we cross over to Yellow Creek past Pickwick lock we will be going downriver with the current.
Got a couple of loads of laundry done.
Spending the evening watching the Indians on the marina TV giving up a grand slam. Ouch! Nothing seems to work for them today.
Game 6 went like this in Cleveland:
The last living member of Cleveland's 1948 World Series championship team, Eddie Robinson, attended Game 6 at Progressive Field Former Indians pitcher Dennis Martínez threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game while country singer Hunter Hayes sang the national anthem.
The Cubs scored three runs in the first inning, all with two outs, on a Kris Bryant home run and a two-run double by Addison Russell after two singles off Josh Tomlin. In the third inning, the Cubs loaded the bases on a walk and two singles off Tomlin, who was relieved by Dan Otero. Following the pitching change, Russell hit the 19th grand slam in World Series history to extend the Cub’s lead to 7–0. Russell's grand slam was the first in a World Series game since Paul Konerko of the crosstown Chicago White Sox in 2005, as well as the first by a visiting player since Lonnie Smith in 1992. In the bottom of the fourth, Mike Napoli drove in Jason Kipnis, who doubled to lead off, with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7–1. In the bottom of the fifth, Kipnis drove a ball over the left field wall for a home run to make it a 7–2 game. In the top of the ninth with a runner on and two outs, Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run to right to make it 9–2.[63] In the bottom of the inning, Aroldis Chapman allowed a leadoff walk to Brandon Guyer and was relieved by Pedro Strop, who threw a wild pitch to move Guyer to second and Roberto Perez's RBI single made it 9–3 Cubs with Perez thrown out at second for the second out. After Carlos Santana walked, Travis Wood relieved Strop and got Jason Kipnis to pop out to short to end the game and force a Game 7.
Russell's six RBIs tied a World Series single-game record. Arrieta became the first NL starting pitcher to notch two road wins in a single World Series since Bob Gibson in 1967.

Tomorrow planning on getting in 52 miles to Pickwick Landing State Park, one lock at the end. Time to call it a night. Fair Winds and Gentle Seas...

Love the scenery.....beautiful houses etc. keep safe
Mickey's checking out the river. Wonder what is going on in his head.
Setting up to pass on the tow’s port side.
Been behind this tow with barges going the same speed. Looking for an opportunity to pass.
Some elaborate homes with river views.
That lighthouse is not a functioning lighthouse but a good lookout for a couple of crows.
Don’t stray too far outside the channel. These deadheads can give you plenty of trouble.
More eye candy!
Another aerial display by a local.
This poor homeowner is still waiting for his ship to come in!
Clifton is a small marina tucked in off the main river.
It was fun reading the guest sign-in book. These are from 2007.
Sonya the Clifton Marina manager offers me a complimentary dessert. Do people think I am starting to look thin?
Waiting for the start of the World Series Game 6 in Cleveland. I’m the only one here on the patio watching the game.
This 72-footer takes up the entire fuel dock. The occupants are heading to Ft. Myers. Getting into this marina is really tight and this skipper with his bow thrusters made it look like child’s play.
Yes, I am in Cotton Country
The Sea Marie is tucked away for the night.
The Clifton Marina sign-ins caught my eye. Although we never actually MET them, we first encountered Gatsby at DeTour Village, MI. Our last encounter with them would have been shortly after their 2007 visit to Clifton. They had run around and friends of ours (at the suggestion of a tow captain) used their powerboat to throw a big enough wake at their bow to break them free. The last time we saw them, we were touring/picnicking at Shiloh and watched them go by southbound.
