Great Loop Day 061 Oct 28, 2016, Green Turtle Bay Resort Layover Day 4
Green Turtle Bay Resort Layover Day 4
“We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.” ― Pico Iyer

Day 61 Friday, Oct.28, 2016. Green Turtle Bay. Indians win game 3 1-0. They're 2-1 in the World Series! Had me biting my fingernails till the last pitch. 4th night here at Green Turtle Bay. Time to move on. Bye cable tv.
Before my new friends from Mystic and Mucho Gusto left this morning we got a group picture taken. We said our goodbyes but I'm sure to meet them further on.
Scott and Rhonda Joiner from Mucho Gusto and Beth and Dave Rogers aboard Mystic. And Mickey and me.
Today I spent the time getting the Sea Marie ready for the next leg, up the Kentucky Lake and Tennessee River. Lashed the crossbucks and A-frame to the rail, changed the oil in my outboard, cleaned the kitty area, put new AAA batteries in my flashlights, bought a block of ice for the cooler, and attached the new turning block I bought yesterday to the bow to make it easier to raise and lower my primary claw anchor from the cockpit and general cleaning. Mickey fell off the dock, number 3, but got back on by himself. Always have a dry towel ready now so he doesn't get our cabin wet.
A lot of activity around the marina today. Tim and Karen Bartel stopped by on their dinghy. Met them up in Port Huron. They're staying at Buzzard's Marina.
The Wilsons are having major work done on La Cigale, a Bayliner, and will be here till the middle of next week. Dave and Susan on Veritas are in need of a new anchor windlass. Rick and Nancy will be leaving in their trawler in a week.
Met Garret from Michigan and some of his friends on SV Further. They are working their way south and plan on going thru the Panama Canal and heading West around the world. And a bunch of other people I don't know their names. And a chap named Henry and his wife who have done the entire loop already, traveled here just to meet other loopers. And of course, the marina people, Bill the Harbor Master, Ashley, Carrie, and Tom, who retrieved my fender. I could stay here a month and meet many other loopers but like I said it's time to move on. It's like 600 miles to Mobile and new adventures to discover. Well, time to get some sleep. Fair winds and gentle seas.....
In the background Dave and Susan are aboard the Veritas, Tim waving and his wife Karen, and Henry who had done the Loop.
Henry frequently stops by Green Turtle to say hi to fellow loopers.
Susan from Veritas.
The trees are getting ready for winter.
Some big sailboats
Boat Card:
World Series Game 3
For Game 3, former Cubs player Billy Williams threw the ceremonial first pitch before the start of the game, Fall Out Boy lead singer Patrick Stump sang the national anthem, and Bill Murray sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh-inning stretch, to mark the Cubs' first World Series night game at home. Chicago pitcher Kyle Hendricks started against Cleveland pitcher Josh Tomlin.
The game's only run came off a Coco Crisp single that scored Michael Martínez from third in the seventh inning. Josh Tomlin, Andrew Miller, Bryan Shaw, and Cody Allen combined to shut out the Cubs. Allen earned his sixth postseason save as Javier Báez struck out swinging to end the game, leaving the tying and winning runs in scoring position. It was the fourth time in which the Cubs had lost in a shutout during the 2016 postseason.
Comments from 2016:
Bronwen Somerset My Ed said you need to get a bigger boat for more travel. Looking good Henry
Sherry Thaler I'm so amazed at how far you've made it. Didn't expect you'd be near Alabama so quickly. Glad Mickey is safe & survived falling in the water....bet that was a nervous moment or two. Just like game 5 will be. But I've got a good feeling about this. Till your next update, Henry, sail safely & GO TRIBE!!
